Clinical Social Work/Therapist, LCSW
Accepting clients Last Updated 6 days ago

Elizabeth “Lizzy” Mengar, LCSW, is a compassionate, collaborative, and transparent clinician that utilizes a humanistic approach to identify the innate strengths of her individual clients. She has a firm belief that all humans have positive qualities and are deserving of learning ways to access their strengths definitively. Lizzy will take the time to explore the areas of growth that each individual client seeks therapy to address. A beautiful aspect of life as a human being is being able to continually learn and grow through our personal experiences.

Lizzy’s practice is derived from her clinical background, she received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and her Master’s degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago where she specialized in Organizational and Community Practice.

Lizzy has experience in working with anxiety, depression, life transitions, development of self identity, LGBTQIA+, trauma, and addictions. She utilizes a person-centered, strengths-focused approach to tailor treatment plans with each client, drawing from modalities such as Psychodynamic Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. Initial sessions with Lizzy will have a heavy emphasis on building a trusting and relational dynamic that allows a client to break down walls and openly discuss vulnerable and sensitive topics, whatever it may be. Her background in case management and community practice also creates an understanding of how societal systems heavily impact a client’s mental health and ability to cope as they may desire. Understanding these complications and obstacles has encouraged her to find ways of coping that are inclusive and sustainable.
