Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Los Angeles, CA

My name is Kimberley Durr, and I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I graduated from Rush University College of Nursing in Chicago, IL and am board certified. I evaluate and treat mental health disorders across the lifespan with medication and have experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly. I am most experienced in mood disorders, anxiety, ADHD, and schizophrenia but have experience in other neurodevelopmental, eating, substance use disorders. In my practice I approach each person individually and holistically. I incorporate his/her life's narrative and preferences when developing treatment plans and provide psychoeducation regarding my diagnostic impression. I offer a compassionate, gentle approach to patient care and provide guidance that is evidence based. I became a nurse simply because I like helping those in need. It brings me great joy and satisfaction to know I am making a difference in someone's life. I eventually found a position working in mental health and never looked back. I was a psychiatric nurse for a few years before pursuing my role as a nurse practitioner. This field can be challenging but rewarding, and I am determined to improve the lives of others. This first session involves getting to know each other and gathering history and collateral information when needed. I develop a case formulation, provide psychoeducation, and offer medication if appropriate. Sometimes labs are also ordered.

College can feel overwhelming — even when you “look” like you’re handling it. I work with students who struggle with anxiety, overthinking, people-pleasing, relationship stress, academic pressure, and big identity questions. You might find yourself comparing, replaying conversations at night, or feeling disconnected from who you used to be. I also specialize in perinatal mental health and support young women navigating fertility stress, pregnancy, postpartum changes, and major life transitions. In therapy, you don’t have to have it all figured out. We’ll slow things down, understand your patterns, and help you feel more grounded and confident in yourself. I offer virtual therapy for students across California.

We offer ADHD assessments designed for college students. Our evaluations are clear, efficient, and built to give you what you need: documentation for school or work, clarity for a provider, or just a solid understanding of your brain. No overkill. No filler. Just a real answer to a real question. You may have taken the quizzes, skimmed the clickbait articles, maybe even had a therapist say, "Hmm, have you ever wondered if it's ADHD?" You want answers—but not just any answers. You want clarity you can use: for work, school, medication, or just understanding why life feels harder than it should. Maybe you've always called it ADD-and yes, that's still real. The name changed to ADHD (inattentive type), but the experience is the same. You don't need a $5,000, 45-page-long unreadable report. But a simple screening test isn’t going to be helpful, either, as that is not diagnostic. You need an evaluation and report that are actually helpful. That's exactly what we do—comprehensive evals that give you exactly what you need.

As a clinical psychologist, I understand that seeking therapy can be a challenging and vulnerable experience. This makes it all the more important to me to create a warm and welcoming environment where you feel comfortable and understood. My approach is compassionate and understanding, and I am here to provide guidance and support as you navigate the challenges you're facing and work towards positive changes in your life and relationships. I received my Master's and Doctorate degrees in Clinical Psychology from California Lutheran University. I completed a doctoral internship in clinical health psychology at Veterans Affairs Sepulveda Ambulatory Care Center, an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited training site. I furthered my specialization in trauma-informed care with a postdoctoral residency at Veterans Affairs Los Angeles Ambulatory Care Center. I have training and experience implementing evidence-based practices such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy (IBCT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT). I am a certified provider of Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for trauma. I have worked with couples, individuals, and groups in community, VA, and private practice settings. My research has focused on helping survivors of human trafficking and complex trauma. I truly believe in the power of therapy, and I am here to support and encourage you every step of the way. ***Currently serving individuals in California and Oregon*** Hello! My name is Carlota, and I am a social justice advocate; a believer in science; a fierce and overly-obsessed dog mom to two wacky pups; an immigrant; and steadfast in my conviction that we have a fundamental obligation to help one another if we have the means and capacity to do so. I am a licensed clinical social worker, and have been in practice since 2013. I completed my undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley in 2008, and received my Master of Social Work (MSW) in 2013 from the Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis. I embrace evidence-based and research-supported therapies, while also honoring the power of the therapeutic relationship and process. I specialize in trauma and PTSD, depression, Bipolar Disorder, anxiety and panic, grief and loss, interpersonal difficulties, and life transitions. I am a trained teacher of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and am certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD and Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Depression (IPT-D). I also have extensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Interpersonal and Social Rhythm Therapy (IPSRT) for Bipolar Disorder, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) for the treatment of PTSD in children and teens. Why might I be a good fit for you? Because I get it, and I am whole-heartedly with you on this journey. I know that coming to therapy is a profound undertaking, and that what I will ask of you in this process is not easy. Introspection, change, and confronting avoidance are hard, and so I strive to provide a safe, authentic, and collaborative environment that honors your story, experience, and identity with compassion and without judgment; I strive to be worthy of bearing witness to your story.

Developmental trauma (experiences as we grow, including our family of origin) shapes how we see the world, sometimes unsafe and challenging to navigate. Our attachments are the foundations in which we trust or find conflict. Developmental trauma may manifest in the body as anxiety, stress, distress, relationship difficulties, depression and more. There is healing to be found here, to be understood and nourished. Well done on the first step in a journey toward wellness. The most important aspect of therapy is finding a person who makes you feel safe and heard. I look forward to collaborating. I have training and experience in working with trauma, family of origin/generational cycles, attachment disruptions, complicated grief and loss, sexuality, sex work and with LGBTQAI+ persons. I love working through emotions, trauma and somatic experiencing. I am Level I Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy trained. I enjoy working with and understanding folx from their perspective; I work with singles, couples, non-monogamous consensual relationships and families. I provide a safe, unassuming space in which you can find felt safety. I appreciate the eclectic person you are and would like to help you identify your own cracks, so that you can let your own light in.
