Let’s be real — the state of the world right now is heavy. As if maintaining good mental health weren’t hard enough already, right? I’m here to support with those hard day-to-day challenges, and to help you understand and shift how your past shapes the way you move through the world today. You have a story worth telling, and I want to hear it. My role is to walk beside you — offering perspective, practical tools, and space to heal. I specialize in working with trauma, grief, and anxiety, always guided by mindfulness, compassion, and a holistic perspective on healing. I draw from a variety of therapeutic modalities including EMDR, Internal family systems (IFS or inner child work), Somatic Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I take a creative approach, weaving together tools from each of these modalities to shape a process that truly fits your needs. For more detail on each, check out the image above. Therapy should feel like a space where you’re truly supported. For some, that means sitting on a cozy couch in an office. For others, it might mean walking through a nearby park or connecting virtually from the comfort of home. You know what feels right for you — and I’d be honored to walk alongside you on that path.
I work with young adults who feel disconnected from themselves and others, struggling with feelings of loneliness, self-doubt, or the sense that something is missing in their lives. If you’re struggling to understand who you are or how to connect with the people and things that matter most to you, I’m here to help. Many of my clients have experienced childhood trauma or challenging family dynamics, which can lead to feelings of anxiety, depression, and isolation. Together, we’ll explore your past with compassion and focus on building the skills needed to create relationships that reflect your true self. In our work together, I’ll follow your lead. This is your journey, and I’m here to listen without judgment. As we uncover what’s causing you pain or confusion, I’ll offer tools and skills in a collaborative way to help you manage overwhelming emotions, establish healthy boundaries, and build better communication. If anxiety, depression, or relationship struggles have left you feeling stuck, I offer a supportive space for you to heal and grow. You deserve to be understood and empowered to live life on your terms. Let’s work together to help you create authentic connections, reclaim your sense of self, and find peace in your relationships.

My mission as a professional counselor is simple: Create a safe and respectful space where my clients can honestly explore, and learn from their personal stories. It is a true honor and privilege to facilitate these personal moments of discovery, that are often raw, difficult and challenging. My areas of focus are those who may be struggling with issues relating to depression, anxiety, grief and loss and life transitions. I also work with young adults in assisting them in facing challenges such as: negative body image, lack of confidence and self esteem, pressures around academics and friendships, loneliness, and future employment concerns While I utilize a variety of counseling techniques depending upon the situation including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing, these are simply means to an end. I’ve learned my clients are seeking someone who listens, and guides them to a path of discovery and healing.
Figuring out what we're thinking and feeling is an important task that can help us figure out how to go after what we really value. I help college students, especially men, identify their thoughts and feelings so they can pursue what they value and communicate more effectively with the important people in their life. I have almost 10 years of experience working with people to figure out what's important and pursue it in a way that builds confidence and improves well-being.
College can be exciting and full of possibilities, but it can also feel overwhelming, lonely, or uncertain at times. I work best with students who are trying to manage stress, anxiety, or self-doubt while balancing academics, relationships, and big life changes. In our work together, I help you understand your thoughts and emotions, build coping skills, and feel more grounded and confident in who you are. My approach is compassionate, practical, and focused on helping you feel better day to day while also creating lasting change.
Navigating OCD, anxiety, relationships, and life transitions can be emotionally and physically draining. There is little more frustrating than thinking and behaving in the same ways despite knowing they contribute to these issues and other debilitating symptoms. Therapy is a place to safely explore the thoughts, behaviors, and relationships that are interfering with living a more fulfilling and rewarding life. I am a trained OCD specialist and an active member of the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF). I have extensive experience working with college undergrad and graduate students from my time as a counselor at the University of Colorado, Boulder and at Bryant University. Working directly on a college campus has provided me with a unique understanding of the intersection between academics and mental health, as well as how to navigate many campus systems best. Currently, in my private practice, I work with college students from the many different colleges in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Colorado. The majority of clients that I work with are navigating Anxiety or OCD and Related Disorders. My clinical approach to therapy is grounded in ERP, ACT, and CBT. I believe therapy is built around compassion, respect, and trust. I look forward to connecting with you and exploring how we can collaboratively achieve your treatment goals. Send me an email, give me a call, or visit my website (www.smithlicsw.com) to set up an appointment. If you are struggling and are tired of trying to handle things alone, please do not hesitate to get in touch. * I provide telehealth services to clients in Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, Illinois, Vermont, and Colorado.*

I became a therapist because I genuinely want to provide a space for people to show up just as they are. You don’t need to feel a certain way, say anything specific, or meet any goal on my timeline. When we can sit back and accept ourselves as we are, we begin to hear things we couldn’t while trying to fix or fight parts of ourselves. I believe even the most challenging parts of us have protective purposes—they deserve curiosity, not shame. I work from a place of intuition and connection more than a strict model or method. I believe in being direct and encouraging you to take the risk of getting uncomfortable. At the same time, I’ll meet you with real empathy, patience, and compassion—plus a bit of humor or lightness when it feels right. Finding the right therapist is hard—especially one who truly sees your full, authentic self. If anything you’ve read resonates, I’d love to connect. Reach out for a free consultation and we can see if this is the space you’ve been looking for.
