Therapists for college students near 02138
As a licensed therapist with more than 25 years of experience, I specialize in helping students navigate the emotional toll of academic anxiety, ADHD, and learning differences. Feeling overwhelmed in school often masks deeper struggles with emotional regulation, stress, and procrastination. Together, we will work through these challenges using proven therapeutic strategies, allowing clients to lower their anxiety, build lasting resilience, and truly thrive.
Making the decision to come to therapy can be a powerful one. I support individuals navigating the various pressures and stresses in their lives. I specialize in working with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, and perfectionism. In session, clients feel a space free of judgment where they can reconnect with their authentic selves. With that in mind, I approach sessions in a collaborative way with the hopes of building self-esteem and personal agency. In our sessions, you'll feel like you're part of a team and not up against the problem alone. I also help college students, young working professionals, and athletes manage all that comes with being in a high-pressured environment. My own experience as a collegiate athlete taught me the values of teamwork, resilience, and overcoming anxiety and self-doubt-- all qualities I aim to pass along to my clients. For all clients, mindfulness may be an important part of our work. I bring in tools from Dialectical Behavior Therapy as well as traditional talk therapy to help you establish healthy boundaries, control overwhelming emotions, and stay grounded in the present moment. I also have a special interest in working with athletes transitioning to life after their sports career. My training as a yoga teacher helps me to deeply understand the mind-body connection, and how identity can get tied up athletic performance. I’ll help you develop a new daily routine, find meaningful ways to incorporate exercise at a lower level, manage fluctuating mood, and develop strong relationships outside of sports. Our sessions will feel like you are supported in taking action steps in your life. I am here to listen and provide accountability with changes you are hoping to make in your life.

Sometimes it's really hard for us to ask for help-especially when you're a strong, independent woman. Therapy is a great way to reach out, learn more about yourself, and grow through any challenges you might be facing. I help women who want to change their relationship with food and their bodies. I work with women in individual, group, & virtual therapy. I have a holistic approach that covers a wide range of symptoms & issues, but I enjoy helping clients who have struggled with their weight make peace with food. I love working with college women who are graduating & seeking support for the transition, and specialize in those women experiencing a "quarter life crisis". I also have a lot of experience helping women with recovering from sexual trauma. I love working with women who may have experienced an unplanned pregnancy or abortion as well, and offer an non-judgemental, pro-choice arena to explore emotions. Welcome, as it takes courage for us to ask for help from others and seek therapy. I am here to tell you that it is okay to ask for help and seeking a professional therapist is the first step in your journey. Life is hard at times, with a multitude of life transitions, from graduating from high school to finishing college, starting a new job, or having feelings of being stuck either personally and/or professionally. Life is not an easy road to travel, but as we travel through different life challenges, sometimes we need help from others and it’s okay to seek help. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who is very passionate about the mental health field and each client I have had the pleasure of working with. I am very respectful of everyone’s journey and believe respect, compassion, and sensitivity are very important in building and maintaining a healthy therapeutic relationship. I have experience with working with clients who have struggled with anxiety, depression, stress and major life transitions, PTSD, trauma, relationship issues, ADHD symptoms, mood disorders, parent-child relationship issues, behavioral problems, parenting techniques, and grief/loss. My therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, TF-CBT, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. I utilize different therapeutic techniques to assist my clients, which ensures each client has a personalized treatment plan. When working with my clients, I like to build a strong therapeutic rapport to gather a clear understanding of the client’s needs, goals they want to work on and/or issues they want to address in therapy, barriers to progression in therapy, and objectives to reach their therapeutic goals. My philosophy in working with each client is that I am here to help you. I hope to work with you, helping you understand where you are in the process of change, motivating you to move towards the next stage, assisting you throughout the therapeutic process, and we move at your pace. The client’s progression in the therapeutic process is to understand and acknowledge that, to a large degree, a successful treatment outcome depends on the amount of energy and effort the client makes. I will always have an open and honest line of communication with clients and be empathetic and very respectful. I look forward to working with you!

Hello there, Feeling stuck? Feeling stressed out about all the things that are competing for your attention? Wanting to change your relationship with yourself, so you can spread your wings and soar? I'm Stefan (he/him) and I want to be there on your journey. Starting therapy can feel scary, even if you've been in therapy before! To lower that intensity a bit, I want you to give you an idea of how I show up to sessions: - I get to know you - your family, friends, hobbies, shows, loves, fears, passions. - I celebrate and hype you up when you do the hard thing. - I ask questions to get you curious about patterns in your life, and point out when you might not be aware of them. - I offer compassion when your mind creates judgments about yourself. - I welcome and ask for feedback, knowing some things will land and others will not. - I laugh with you and value humor. - I tear up when you feel hurt or uncover a tender spot (while also holding space for you to feel). - I'll tell you I'm proud of you. - I nerd out about mental health, skills, approaches, and explain concepts in a way you'll understand. - I slow down and speed up based on your cues, and I give you choice in how we go about sessions. - I'm always working on our relationship, so there's trust and security when we get to difficult things. - I acknowledge the bigger systems of oppression that affect your life and lives of your loved ones. - I'm active and dynamic in sessions - sometimes asking questions, leading an activity, listening and reflecting, interrupting to highlight something you said, and synthesizing information and summarizing it back to you. All of this "I" is the effort I put into helping you get to "you": what you want, what you care about, your goals, dreams, your emotions, stressors, internal talk, and who you want to become and how you want to show up in life. Specialties: queer and trans identities and lived experiences, anxiety and depression, perfectionism, substance use, navigating family dynamics, healing trauma, couples and relationship work, career discernment Approaches: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR; trauma approach), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Gottman Method (for relationship work), mindfulness and somatic interventions I'm an associate counselor, seeing clients through telehealth in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and California. Starting therapy can be a bit daunting and scary. Opening up and being vulnerable to a complete stranger can be challenging. That is why we make it my mission for the process to be pleasant and safe for you. Through various psychotherapy methods and collaborative treatment measures, our clients develop life-changing habits to help them cope with life’s various obstacles. Our therapy sessions are designed to dissect personal issues and provide clients with effective tools to help them see the glass as half full instead of half empty.
You’re thoughtful, capable, and often the one others rely on—but inside, you may feel overwhelmed, anxious, or emotionally drained. Many of my clients struggle with overgiving, difficulty setting boundaries, relationship stress, or burnout. I help you understand your patterns, strengthen your voice, and build healthier, more balanced relationships so you can feel grounded, respected, and more like yourself again. I specialize in helping high-functioning adults navigate anxiety, trauma, and relationship challenges. Using a trauma-informed, integrative approach (CBT, DBT, EMDR), I support you in setting boundaries, regulating emotions, and creating healthier patterns in your life and relationships. You don’t have to carry everything on your own. If you’re ready to feel more supported, clear, and emotionally grounded, therapy can help you move forward with confidence and intention. I’d be honored to support you in this next chapter. My mission is to help people heal, grow and thrive - so they can achieve their goals and improve their lives. Tired of briefly feeling a little better after talking to your therapist each week, while not really making any sustained progress? Feeling like you two don't really have (or haven’t even discussed) a plan to address what brought you in for therapy? If you answered “yes,” to either question, you unfortunately are not alone. From day one, a key part of treatment at T.O.P.+ Behavioral Health is developing a collaborative plan incorporating your goals and strengths. My therapy approach is warm and validating, while teaching you evidence-based tools to increase awareness of what’s keeping you stuck and to make changes to get unstuck and live more aligned with what is important to you. I offer both specialized and more general individual therapy services. As an expert in exposure and response prevention (ERP) and habit reversal training, I am proud to offer the first-line and gold-standard treatments for OCD and tic disorders respectively. In addition, I am an expert in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure therapy for panic disorder, social anxiety, phobias, and generalized anxiety disorder. Other specialty offerings include CBT for depression, adult ADHD, insomnia, and binge eating disorder. A significant portion of my practice also involves working with college students experiencing normal, but difficult, issues that often show up during college years and transitions, such as test anxiety, difficulties making or navigating friendships, trouble concentrating, self-esteem or identity issues, or relationship difficulties. In addition to the standard individual therapy services described above, T.O.P. + also proudly offers intensive therapy services for OCD (i.e., ERP), Tourette’s & Tic Disorders (i.e., HRT), Panic Disorder/Agoraphobia (i.e., CBT) and Specific Phobia (i.e., CBT). Our Accelerated ERP, HRT, and CBT Programs consist of longer sessions (e.g., two to four hours per session) compared with a standard 50-minute session. In addition, most Accelerated Programs meet more frequently (e.g., three to five times per week) compared with the standard once-weekly therapy session, allowing one to finish a dose of treatment in one to three weeks. Accelerated program sessions can take place in-office, via telehealth, in the community, or through a combination of these settings. Our Accelerated Programs are great 1) for those with severe symptoms for which meeting once weekly might not be adequate to manage concerns; 2) for individuals wanting to finish a dose of treatment in a significantly shorter period of time (i.e., Great for Winter or Spring Break); 3) in many instances to help create momentum, achieve symptom improvement and reach therapy goals more quickly; 4) save money by receiving a discount compared with T.O.P. +’s hourly rates for standard individual therapy. Contact Dr. Bowe to learn more about specific offerings and pricing of Accelerated Programs. I do not currently accept insurance for standard individual therapy or for any of the Accelerated Programs. For standard individual therapy, however, I offer a $50/session discount for in-person appointments at my downtown Northampton office which has ample free parking and is accessible by public transportation. An additional $10/session discount is offered by payment by cash/check for standard individual therapy appointments. These two discounts do not apply to Accelerated Programs. As noted above, however, there is a separate discounted hourly rate for Accelerated Programs which ends up being less than the hourly rate for standard individual therapy even after in-office and cash/check-payment discounts are taken into account. Please also be aware that many insurances also offer out-of-network benefits, and may reimburse some of your expenses for standard individual therapy sessions when you submit paperwork which I can provide you with. For a free 15- to 30-minute initial consultation, please call or email me to learn more about how I might be able to help you.
It's ok to ask for help. But it's also ok to wonder if a therapist can really help you. It's true that I can't erase your past or instantly take away your pain (although I wish I could). However, I can help you carry your burdens more lightly, whether that means healing from trauma, finding closure from a relationship, or learning new ways of coping with depression and anxiety. I can offer you a new perspective on the issues that you are dealing with. You have struggled alone long enough. Therapy is your time to feel supported and understood. I have extensive experience treating a variety of issues (see list of specialties below). I use several therapeutic approaches including person-centered, strength-based, interpersonal, compassion focused, multicultural, and CBT. Therapy is not a "one size fits all" approach. We will work together to figure out the best approach for your individual needs. I know it's difficult to reach out to someone you hardly know and share struggles that are so deeply personal to you. I will offer you a safe space where you can just come as you are. Clients describe me as kind, caring, and nonjudgmental. Please contact me for a complimentary consultation to see if we might be a good fit. I look forward to hearing from you.
