Therapists for college students near 02139
Hi and welcome—I’m really glad you found your way here! College can be exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming—classes, relationships, family expectations, figuring out who you are, and making decisions about the future. It’s normal to feel stressed, stuck, or unsure at times. I work with students who are navigating anxiety, stress, self-esteem, identity, relationships, grief, trauma, and big life transitions. My style is collaborative and down-to-earth—I want our sessions to feel like a safe space where you can show up exactly as you are. My goal is to support you in making sense of what you’re going through, building tools that actually fit your life. Therapy doesn’t have to be heavy all the time—it can also be a space to reflect, grow, and discover new parts of yourself. If this feels like the kind of support you’re looking for, I’d love to connect!
As a dual-certified practitioner of integrative psychiatry, I bring a holistic perspective to mental healthcare, grounded in a deep understanding of the mind-body connection and its impact on both mental and physical well-being. My approach to psychiatric care is centered on collaboration, empathy, and honoring each individual's unique path. Through comprehensive assessments, tailored treatment plans, expert pairing of both psychotropic and complementary interventions, and continuous therapeutic support, I work to guide my patients through challenging times, build resilience, and empower a strong sense of self-efficacy.
Currently accepting new clients! As a therapist, I believe that every individual has the potential to heal, grow, and thrive. My approach to therapy is grounded in a trauma-informed, strengths-based, and solution-focused perspective. This means that I recognize the impact of trauma on individuals' lives, and I create a safe and supportive space where clients feel empowered to explore their challenges and develop strategies for healing and growth. Whether you are facing a major life transition, such as a job loss or divorce, or struggling with interpersonal conflicts, anxiety, or depression, I can provide guidance and support as you navigate these difficult experiences. My primary focus is on empowering clients to build resilience and manage these challenges effectively, while identifying solutions. Therapy can feel daunting to some, but I believe in empowering clients to take charge of their treatment journey, focusing on their strengths and resilience. Hsin-Chun (or you can call her Joanna) is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Registered Play Therapist™, EMDR therapist, Level-II Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, Complex Trauma Trainer in training with Complex Trauma Training Consortium, and Teaching Fellow at Harvard University Graduate School of Education. She serves Massachusetts and Texas residents with life transition issues, clinical mental struggles, and developmental/attachment traumas. She provides trauma-informed professional consultations, workshops, and groups to the global communities.
I like to create a safe and supportive environment to allow clients to explore the challenges in their lives and to create healthier coping strategies and ways of thinking to live happier and more satisfying lives. I enjoy working with adults and older adolescents struggling with stress, life problems, self-confidence, and/or relationship issues. I have a background in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, but I utilize a variety of techniques in sessions. I am a strong believer in "word choice" and becoming aware of the implications our words have on our thoughts and feelings.
As a psychotherapist and life coach I am trained primarily in a psychodynamic approach as well as in exercise physiology. I understand how the mind, body and emotions are interconnected. When we are physically attuned, we are able to access deeper parts of ourselves. These parts may be limiting due to old beliefs, negative behavior patterns or confusing emotions. Sometimes all three! Also, I bring to our work, years of coaching collegiate student athletes in team sports as well as in fitness and wellness.
Right now you may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stressed out, or just feeling “stuck.” Maybe you struggle with overthinking, difficulty sleeping, worrying about the future, feeling unmotivated, or unsure of your next step forward. My clients are often seeking a therapist for anxiety, stress, life changes, ADHD, (seasonal) depression, college, and relationship problems. The thing is, it really is possible to overcome what you’re going through with help from an experienced therapist. I’m here to really listen to you and be by your side, helping you to cultivate the change that you want in your life. Therapy should feel collaborative, safe, and empowering. I bring in a variety of evidenced-based therapy frameworks personalized to your needs, along with compassion and humor into sessions. We’ll sort through what feels hard, learn healthy ways to cope with emotions, and rewrite unhelpful patterns to develop healthier relationships with others and yourself. Imagine what your life will look like when you’ve gotten what you needed out of therapy. Lets make that happen together. Call or email me to schedule a free 20-minute consultation call, and we can see if it’s a good fit. I look forward to talking to you soon!

Scott Smith received a Master of Arts from Assumption College in 2007, with a specialization in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for adults. Scott completed his internship at a top tier training site, The Bridge of Central Massachusetts, where he received additional intensive training in dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) for individuals and groups. Scott has decades of experience working in multiple agencies and group practices, helping individuals and couples who have a wide range of diagnoses. In 2019, Scott began a solo practice focusing on couple therapy using emotional focus therapy (EFT). Scott realized he enjoys collaboration with other providers and decided to form Insights Psychological Services, PLLC with Ashley O'Hearn, Psy.D. to fulfill a dream as well as a need for the mental health community in Boston. Scott is excited about the prospects of clients having an authentic experience and clinicians being invested as much as the individuals are in their treatment. Scott enjoys working with adult individuals and couples (ages 20's to 50's) who are experiencing anxiety, depression, and relationship difficulties. More specifically, Scott likes working with clients who want to gain awareness and insight surrounding their maladaptive behavioral patterns in order to promote change. Those who are in an existential crisis and seeking resolution, would likely be a good fit working with Scott. In terms of helping individuals, Scott provides psychological counseling using a CBT framework through a relational lens. He puts emphasis on learning about his clients' lived experience, while also pushing for change by challenging negative held beliefs or schemata. Scott is sensitive to clients feeling uncomfortable sharing their vulnerabilities and uses validation and encouragement throughout the therapy process to help clients feel understood. When working with couples, Scott uses EFT to help his clients identify the problematic dynamic that occurs in the relationship. He assists each individual of the partnership in identifying their emotional experience when a rupture has occurred as well as aids them in taking an empathetic stance with their partner in order to repair the injury. Additionally, Scott incorporates his DBT training to help couples better communicate to one another in an effective manner. Stylistically, Scott also guides his clients through the entire therapy process to create safety so that clients are able to gradually be able to tolerate uncomfortable feelings. Scott provides his individual and couple clients emotional consulting meaning that he provides feedback on what clients might be doing behaviorally that once was helpful but now is potentially keeping them stuck and unable to move forward toward their life goals. He uses humor and irreverence as a great therapeutic tool.
