Hi, I'm Colleen! I have been a Social Worker for the last 17 years working with adults, adolescents, children and families. I will bring compassion, reflection and a little humor during our time together. In sessions, I utilize several integrated modalities to really adjust to what the individual needs are. I like to use a Person-Centered Approach, meeting the individual where they are in order to collaboratively develop obtainable goals and explore healthy coping strategies. We will use Psychodynamic Therapy to explore the individuals thoughts and feelings, and how the past may be impacting their present or future.

If you are looking for someone with niche experience relevant to your situation, I have specialized experience supporting survivors of domestic violence and community violence, suicide and homicide bereavement, individuals with adoption and foster care histories, individuals impacted by a loved ones' substance use, intergenerational trauma, and burnout/compassion fatigue. In my practice, I value transparency in the therapeutic relationship and aim to create a space where clients can show up as their authentic selves. My approach is holistic, strengths-based and person-centered. I believe that relationships determine a lot about how we interact with the world - in both helpful and less helpful ways. Our behaviors, attitudes, thoughts, feelings, and relationship styles are reinforced over time by our experiences, families, partners, environments, and culture. Psychotherapy can help when stress, trauma, life transitions, or difficult relationships call for new ways of coping and navigating our lives. My approach integrates evidence-based practices shown to be effective including, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Family Systems, Attachment Theory, and an Interpersonal Process approach, to provide highly individualized psychotherapy services to my clients. Together, we will work to define your treatment goals and to create new patterns of thinking, feeling, and relating to others and the world around you. This collaborative process will help you feel more connected to your values and to engage more fully in your life.

I see you as the expert of your experience and together, with my professional background, we can devise a plan and take steps to help you find your true authentic self. I have vast experience working with children, teens, college students, and adults. I can assist in talking about the stress of school work and being away from home or other daily struggles such as a roommate issue or a new relationship. I have a person centered approach and like to meet my clients where they are at. My specialities include art therapy, trauma focused CBT, and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). I take insurances and offer both telehealth and in -person options. Reach out to see if we are a good fit!
Currently offering Telehealth sessions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Congrats! You have done the first and often hardest step of finding a therapist. During these difficult times, it makes sense that you might be feeling lost and needing more support. This time can be especially hard for people who have experienced trauma or struggle with anxiety and depression. I specialize in working with young adults who have gone through recent or past trauma(s) or who struggle with long term depression or anxiety. I want to teach you the skills that you need to be your own therapist. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which is an evidence based practice, that helps you learn the skills to become your own therapist. CBT is a collaborative approach that empowers you to be in the driver's seat of your treatment. Through my experience and research, CBT has show to be beneficial for those who struggle with PTSD, depression, and anxiety. It is important to me to provide a non-judgmental, empathetic place where you can share your thoughts and feelings.
As a psychotherapist, I've had the privilege of helping clients navigate a wide variety of challenges. At its foundation, therapy is relational; it encourages immense vulnerability and asks us to place our trust in someone entirely new. The most rewarding sessions can emerge from intimate, yet difficult, conversations. For individuals and couples seeking services, I specialize in sexual health concerns, relational problems, life transitions, men’s issues, trauma, and any co-occurring anxiety and depression that may accompany these topics. When I meet with clients, I hope to nurture a safe, warm, and affirming environment. I approach clinical work through a non-pathologizing lens and value the knowledge, wisdom, and intuition that are developed through one's experiences. I operate from a place of empathy, curiosity, and cultural humility when navigating every interaction. In pursuit of providing the best mental health care, I completed an advanced certificate in sexual health and sex therapy at the University of Michigan. For individuals and couples wanting to address sexual health topics, I welcome conversations related to non-monogamy/polyamory, intimacy/connection, sexual shame/empowerment, desire discrepancies and low desire, sexual functioning concerns, and trauma. As a queer clinician, I am committed to improving the mental health of the LGBTQ+ community, yet I invite clients of any background to explore services. Not all people come to therapy with clear intentions for this work; some merely sense that they may benefit from additional support. Wherever you are in this journey, I hope to join you along the way.
I am not your typical therapist, and strive to always create that emotional connection that allows us to work through any issue as a team. Most of my clients have already tried traditional therapy, and haven't been able to engage in one way or the other. Many of my clients haven't felt heard or understood, and it is a goal of mine to make therapy accessible for all. My belief as a therapist is that everyone can benefit- and should benefit from the relationship they have with their therapist. My clients believe in person centered care- and feedback goes both ways. I provide a trauma informed environment where the client gets to lead. As a therapist, my main goal is to meet you where you are at and go from there. Over time my skills have been honed for working with struggling teens, self injury, LGBT youth, and families. I have a unique approach to all of these, but have seen fantastic results in all areas. I also enjoy family coaching, and offer an on call service for families. If you need a 'ride or die' therapist- that's me. I'm committed to navigating any and all concerns and barriers when working together- no problem is too big. When we agree to work together, I am committing to finding times during the week that work for you. My availability is based on you.

Client-centered, holistic practice with creative and evidence -based approaches.
To establish a relationship with a therapist takes time and can be rewarding when you are able to build trust, knowing you are able to confide and share your perspective, your story. This process allows the individual the opportunity to gain clarity in a setting that is confidential and accepting. All too often emotional/physical pain can have a significant impact on our ability to remain independent, self-reliant, engaged in everyday tasks and life roles at level of independence that is rewarding to oneself and those they care for. As an Occupational Therapist with a background in behavioral health, I take a holistic approach. As an Occupational Therapist I have assisted many clients in understanding how their performance patterns, habits, routines, and roles influence life satisfaction. This process allows my clients the opportunity to promote, establish (or restore), or modify a task within a life role to create a sense of control over ones life. My background and 25 year experience have demonstrated success in supporting clients who experience physical/emotional pain and reduced functional independence. My ability to allow an individual to feel safe, acknowledged, and empowered while developing the tools and skills necessary for emotional stability, greater independence, and an effective resource.
Hello! I'm glad you're here. I know how hard it can be to ask for help and start something new. I firmly believe your experience is unique and your treatment should be, too. Therapy is not only for navigating challenging experiences and feelings, but for celebrating growth and change. My clients learn about themselves in meaningful ways depending on what works best for them as we collaborate on their goals. It's an honor for me to guide clients in their therapeutic work, and my personal approach is authentic and empathetic while being down-to-earth and personable.
I help clients navigate life in a way that is personally meaningful, while effectively managing the pain and difficulty that inevitably shows up along the way. I will help you get to know your mind's habits and tell the difference between helpful and unhelpful ones. We will figure out your personal priorities and use these as our roadmap. We'll work on becoming more flexible, brave, wise, purposeful and self-accepting - all in the service of what matters most to you.

Once you understand yourself more, healing can occur. I will help you challenge your negative thoughts and build skills to cope with a stressful world.
