Therapists for college students near New York University
Starting college is a major transition, and it can bring a mix of excitement, pressure, stress, and uncertainty. You may find yourself feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or unsure of how to navigate relationships, academics, and the growing expectations of independence. I work with students to better understand their emotional experiences, build confidence, and develop more effective ways of managing stress. Together, we focus on helping you feel more grounded, more connected, and better able to navigate both your inner world and your relationships. I am also licensed to provide comprehensive in-person testing. This may be for your personal understanding of yourself or it could be to support applications for accommodations for academic work at your college or for standardized testing (e.g. GRE, LSAT, MCAT etc).
I’m Lily, a therapist who works with young adults, professionals, and LGBTQIA+ individuals who are tired of living small, anxious, or disconnected from themselves. I believe therapy works best when it’s a real relationship, no blank stares, no “how does that make you feel?” on repeat. I show up as my full self so you can feel safe showing up as yours. In our sessions, we might: -Untangle anxious thoughts so they stop running the show -Explore the beliefs about yourself you didn’t even know you’d been carrying -Learn how to quiet that relentless inner critic -Heal the ways you relate to food, your body, and your worth -Strengthen your boundaries and self-trust I use tools from mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), narrative storytelling, and Intuitive Eating, but always in a way that fits you.
Do you ever feel like no matter what you do, it’s never enough? Maybe you find yourself picking apart your reflection in the mirror, replaying awkward conversations in your head, or wondering why relationships always feel harder than they should. You might feel caught between wanting to change and fearing it will always feel this way. I creates a space where you don’t have to go through it alone. My approach is compassionate, curious, and free of judgment. With warmth and a touch of humor, I help clients unpack the pressures and self-criticism that weigh them down so they can start building self-trust, healthier relationships, and a kinder connection to themselves.
Do you ever feel weighed down by emotions you can’t seem to shake, like anxiety that keeps you up at night, or shame that lingers long after the moment has passed? Maybe you’re navigating the highs and lows of relationships, struggling with self-worth, or trying to break free from old coping patterns that no longer serve you. Whatever you’re carrying, it can feel overwhelming to face it on your own. I creates a space where you don’t have to hide or minimize your feelings. With warmth, empathy, and creativity, I help clients sit with difficult emotions, unpack painful experiences, and begin rewriting the story they tell themselves. My goal is to help you feel respected, heard, and empowered to live more authentically.

You might be carrying something hard to name — a persistent unease, a quiet fear that has settled around your daily life, memories that surface at awkward times, or a low-level despair that you can’t quite explain or shake. You may have told yourself it isn’t serious enough to deal with, or that therapy isn’t really for someone like you. Do you ever feel like your relationship with food, your body, or your emotions has quietly taken over more of your life than you ever intended? Maybe you have spent years managing it alone, turning to restriction, rigid rules, or old coping habits to feel some sense of control, only to find yourself exhausted, disconnected, or wondering if things can actually be different. I know how heavy that can feel. I bring both specialized clinical training and genuine compassion to my work with clients navigating eating disorders, body image, and the emotions that often live underneath both. With experience at The Renfrew Center for Eating Disorders, one of the country's leading eating disorder treatment programs, I've worked with adolescents and adults across a wide range of presentations and levels of care. I specialize in eating disorders, body image, OCD, ADHD, anxiety, and depression, and brings a relational, trauma-informed approach to every session. My goal is to create a space where you feel truly seen rather than assessed, where the work moves at a pace that feels safe, and where healing feels possible rather than out of reach.

Michael is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over five years of experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds in New York. He is especially passionate about supporting clients navigating stress, anxiety, relationships, identity, and major life transitions—common during college and early adulthood. As a Latino clinician who is fluent in Spanish, he understands how stigma around mental health can make it difficult to take that first step. Michael focuses on creating a comfortable, nonjudgmental space where you can be yourself. He takes a warm, collaborative approach, helping clients gain clarity, build insight, and work through challenges at their own pace. His approach is flexible and tailored to each individual, drawing from person-centered and cognitive-behavioral therapy. If you’ve been unsure about starting therapy, it can help to begin with just one session and see how it feels.
Some of the most meaningful moments in my work have come from patients who carried their struggles alone for far too long — people who finally decided, on their own terms, that something needed to change. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), I work with young adults to older adults from a wide range of socioeconomic statuses, upbringings, faiths, and political affiliations who may be navigating depression, anxiety, stress, and trauma. Of these, the ones who truly stand out are those who were honestly determined to seek treatment for their own betterment. What you bring to our work together matters deeply to me. If you're arriving with a genuine willingness to make real change in your life, we'll build on that foundation. Together, we'll develop a structured treatment plan with clear objectives oriented around your SMART goals, moving toward measurable growth rather than simply managing symptoms. My approach is rooted in respect, honest partnership, and the belief that treatment works best when it's something you've chosen for yourself. Whatever brings you here, my hope is to help you grow into a version of yourself you may not have realized you could be. Drawing on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness-based stress management techniques, I help you address the immediate obstacles you're facing, while using a psychodynamic approach to work through the deeper roots of core issues that may stem from key past experiences. I approach every session with respect, compassion, and open-mindedness, so you are empowered to achieve this healing in an environment where you feel safe, comfortable, and free to express yourself without fear of judgment. You can also expect to work with a therapist who understands what it means to be human, which is to be imperfect regardless of skillset or background. I recognize and accept that certain flaws are simply part of one's character, and whether those are things to actively work on will always be a decision we make together. By drawing on my own experiences, within appropriate limits, and even humor when appropriate, you feel recognized as a full person with emotions rather than a case to be managed. Mental health struggles are not strangers to me. I've navigated my own battles with depression, anxiety, and traumatic loss, and have been blessed with the genuine fortune of working through those experiences with skilled therapists and mentors who shaped both who I am and how I practice. These experiences are foundational to my work now. Growing up, I was taught that kindness and respect are the conditions under which real trust is built. That lesson has stayed with me. In my practice, I believe warmth and acceptance aren't just values to aspire to — they are clinical necessities. Treatment is most effective when the person receiving it feels genuinely welcomed, regardless of background, upbringing, faith, or life experience. All patients who come ready to do the work are welcome. To anyone considering treatment for the first time: give it an honest chance. The willingness to show up is often the hardest part, and it's worth it. Music has been a constant in my life. I play guitar and bass, write songs, and sing. Video games are another genuine passion; I've logged serious hours in Skyrim, compete enthusiastically in Mario Kart, and have recently been deep into Marvel Rivals (among others). When schedules align, spending time with family and friends is where I love to be.

Does your mind feel like it’s constantly running, overthinking every decision, replaying conversations, or trying to keep up with the pressure to do well in school, relationships, and everything else? College can bring a lot of stress. Many students I work with feel anxious, stuck in their own heads, or overwhelmed by perfectionism and procrastination. You might be juggling coursework, friendships, family expectations, or questions about your future—and it can feel like too much on your own. I’m Ahuva, a licensed therapist who helps college students manage anxiety, OCD, perfectionism, relationship stress, and major life changes. Together, we’ll use practical tools to help you understand what’s getting in your way, build healthier coping skills, and feel more grounded and in control. My style is warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth. You don’t need to show up with the “right” words or have everything figured out. This is a space where you can be honest, slow down, and work through what’s really going on, without judgment. Reaching out for support can feel scary, but you don’t have to navigate these challenges alone. I’m here to help you take that first step and support you as you build confidence, clarity, and a healthier path forward.
Reaching out for help can be hard. We will do our best to provide a safe, supportive environment, when you can feel free to share as much as you need to. We consider therapy to be a collaboration between clinician and patient. Our job is to work with you to help you better understand your inner thoughts and feelings so that you can become the best version of you. We tend to follow patterns of behavior based on our earliest identities. Some of us go through life thinking we are not smart enough, not good looking enough, not capable enough, or not as good as others. It's important to understand that these beliefs are not in fact reality, but an internalized sense of self that we have learned from our earliest experiences. Because of these beliefs, we can often find ourselves repeating unhealthy patterns in relationships, how we deal with stress, social isolation, engaging in unhealthy or risky behaviors, and all manner of acting out in self-destructive ways. Therapy can help re-define who you are, so that instead following these unhealthy patterns, you can make choices that are informed by what you really want, as opposed to what you think you deserve. Therapy is not a quick fix. It takes time and commitment, and it is hard. We are ready to make that commitment with you, and be with you on your journey of self-discovery, so that you can become the author of your own life, rather than letting it be written for you. Please contact us for a free consultation.
