Therapists for college students near Temple University
Welcome! I'm Joanna. I work with adolescents (16+) & adults, most frequently young adults. I particularly enjoy working with transitional issues - changes in school, jobs, family, relationships, identity, etc. Often, my clients are dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, and/or interpersonal conflict. I value working with folks with a range of backgrounds, races, faiths, genders, sexualities, and lifestyles. My work sees people through a systems lens, recognizes the oppressive barriers to mental wellness, and encourages reflection on cultural impact. My ideal client is open minded, patient, and motivated for change. I value flexibility in the therapeutic relationship and use a person-centered approach, whether that's structured skill building or an empathetic ear. I work mostly from an ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy) framework, but also incorporate elements of CBT, DBT, and interpersonal therapy. I am not a true "blank slate" - healing comes from connections! I'm glad to have you here - it shows you've taken a huge first step towards healing, processing, and growth, and I'm honored to support you. Shoot me a message to get connected (note: telehealth only)! The extras: I am a cancer sun ISFJ, and I enjoy making pottery, reading fiction, going for walks/hikes, and watching reality TV with my dog.

Your struggles are unique and complex. As a psychologist my aim is to help you explore your personal narratives, to understand how your past is affecting your present and keeping you from fulfilling your values. I take a pragmatic and eclectic approach by integrating psychodynamic theories with evidence-based tools. I draw on treatments ranging from CBT, ACT, and CPT, tailoring treatment to your unique needs and experiences. I completed advanced training at Haverford College and the Dept. of Veteran Affairs Hospital where I continue to work as a trauma specialist. My work and experience have allowed me to aid individuals in many age brackets. I am able to be adaptable to meet the needs of the individuals in front of me. While I specialize in treating Anxiety, Depression, Mood Disorders and traumas, I have the capacity to assist with a range of issues and problems people may present with. I am working on national certification in EMDR and work to use this approach to help others suffering from traumatic experiences to move forward. I want to be able to understand my clients to build trust and connection. Much of the beginning sessions are spent building this through clear expectations.
It is my goal as a therapist to help each person become their best self. I help individuals facing personal challenges and work to form a pathway to uncover solutions. I bring a solid understanding of everyday challenges to our sessions. We will work together in order for you to gain growth and inner strength. I strongly believe in the relationship between the therapist and client, and treat each situation with the utmost care. Mutual trust is imperative to successful therapy.
My practice is based on the belief in the strength and resilience within all people, even in life's most trying times. Right now you may be feeling overwhelmed, lost, or disconnected from what is meaningful to you. I'd be happy to speak with you so that you may determine if I'm the right person to help you. If you feel that I am, I'll meet with you to discuss your problems, strengths, and goals. We will decide together what your long-term goals for therapy are. During each session, we will collaborate to discuss what problems you have been experiencing and how we can approach them. I'll provide feedback that may include asking you to look at the problem a different way, learning to tolerate difficult feelings, or learning skills, such as relaxation. I ask that you come prepared to session with ideas of what we should focus on. I respect the time and effort you put nto therapy, and I want it to be used in a way that is valuable to you.If you've gotten this far and think I can help, please feel free to call or email me. I offer all prospective clients a free 15-minute phone consultation.
“Helping people is a privilege.” For more than twenty-five years, I’ve supported children, adolescents, adults, and families through moments of change, stress, and growth. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in listening deeply. I meet clients exactly where they are, move at their pace, and help them make sense of what they’re feeling so they can move toward meaningful change. I work with clients who want to understand patterns that are no longer serving them — whether that’s anxiety, being overwhelmed, people pleasing, perfectionism, relationship stress, or major life transitions. Together we explore what’s underneath these experiences, build insight, and develop practical tools for emotional regulation and resilience. My style integrates solution-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness strategies & strengths-based work. Clients often tell me they feel heard, supported, & empowered to make choices that align with who they want to be. Therapy with me is a collaborative process where your voice matters, your goals guide our work, and growth becomes possible.
