Therapists for college students near Temple University
Are you feeling down, anxious, and isolated? Are you experiencing struggles with work, life transitions, or unresolved trauma? I am passionate about working with adults, couples, and families who are dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, stress management, and life transitions. I am also dedicated to assisting immigrants and international students in navigating adjustments to American culture. My approach is integrative, engaging individuals to learn adaptive coping strategies and embrace the best version of themselves. I am trained in evidence-based approaches such as CBT and DBT. I will help you explore how thoughts impact emotions and behaviors, challenge negative self-talk, and cultivate skills such as emotion regulation. Reaching out for help can feel intimidating. I aim to foster a warm and non-judgmental atmosphere for you to freely share. I would be honored to help you navigate in the direction of your values and goals.
As solution-focused therapists, our goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. While we can’t change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life. Talking with a mental health professional can help alleviate emotional distress and assist with finding solutions to your problems so that you can find your inner balance. If you’re looking for extra support and guidance through a challenging situation or you’re just ready to move in a new direction in your life, we look forward to working with you to achieve your goals. Please call or email us for an individual, couples or family therapy.
You are dealing with the impact of your past experiences, all while trying to keep it together and manage the stress of daily life. Although you want to heal so badly, you feel like you can never quite find a therapist that you can show your true, authentic self to. You may be dealing with anxious and depressed thoughts, relationship issues, traumatic memories resurfacing, or feelings of anger and resentment. You need a space where you can connect the puzzle pieces and find deep and meaningful compassion for yourself. My work is attachment-based, trauma informed, and relational in nature. This means that we won't just look at the symptoms you are experiencing, but also the world around you and how you have learned to survive in it. I will be there to guide you and help bring awareness to the patterns and ways of being that have helped you through these difficulties. If you have resonated with what you have read thus far, I welcome you to reach out! I offer afternoon and evening availability for adults and adolescents to best accommodate busy schedules. I love being a therapist and helping individuals develop a deeper understanding of, and connection to, themselves and others. I value building a strong therapeutic relationship based on acceptance, trust, and empathic understanding, where individuals feel safe, heard, valued and empowered to heal and make the positive changes for which they desire. I use a variety of methods in my work, including relational, cognitive, behavioral, and emotion-focused interventions in an integrative fashion to address each person's unique concerns. With children, I incorporate developmentally-sensitive interventions and mediums for self-expression. I offer treatment for a variety of concerns, inc. stress, anxiety, depression, identity and adjustment concerns, and relationship issues. I specialize in treating survivors of interpersonal trauma and have extensive experience working with individuals who have experienced sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and various forms of childhood maltreatment. I have experience conducting therapy and assessment in a variety of settings (college counseling, RTF, community mental health, crisis mobile response, schools) across the continuum of age and functioning. I have training and experience in therapy modalities to treat PTSD, including TF-CBT, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Prolonged Exposure.
When I opened A Better Life Therapy in 2013, I had one goal: to create a practice where people feel truly welcomed and supported. In my own search for a therapist, I was surprised by how difficult it was to even get a call or email returned. I wanted to change that. At A Better Life, you’ll always hear back from us , whether you call, email, or schedule online. We believe finding a therapist should be simple, and you deserve to know that someone is here for you. (And yes, it’s true that I’ve been known to write prospective clients back at midnight just to make sure they could rest assured that there was an appointment available to them.) I also wanted to create a space where I am confident the therapist you are working with is not only highly trained to support you but genuinely cares about what you’re going through and where you want to go. Over time, A Better Life has grown into something even bigger than I imagined: a family practice for mental health. Much like a trusted family doctor’s office, we’re here for your whole family across the lifespan. We love being able to support parents as they navigate the transitions of raising children, help kids work through friendship struggles, guide young adults through the stress of college and career, strengthen couples as they build their relationships, and stand alongside families as they cope with loss or the challenges of aging. In short: we want to walk with you through all of life’s moments -the messy and beautiful — from birth to your second act, and every stage in between. Welcome to our practice. We hope to see you around!

Put your mental health first. Many times in the past, I have got so caught up with multiple responsibilities, that I stopped caring well for myself, which hindered my ability to meet my responsibilities. I have found it necessary, at those times, to cut back and turn my attention to self-care. Whatever difficulty you may be facing, academic, relationships, or emotional, I encourage you to get help. The sooner you address it, the easier it is to correct. The treatment approach will depend upon your needs. If you have an addiction, or similar behavioral problem, Motivational Interviewing is the best evidence-based approach. If it is PTSD, EMDR. I am eclectic, using the SAMHSA.gov best practice recommendations for the treatment of trauma, addictions, anxieties, and mood disorders. See my website for more information.
I created this practice, mktherapy, in order to provide a space that believes in affirming and celebrating queer and trans identities. I specialize in working with fat identified folks who are in recovery and healing from fatphobic familial and cultural structures. I have additional interests in working with people coming into queer and trans identities later in life, intergenerational and ancestral trauma, as well as religious and spiritual trauma.
I’ve experienced my own struggles with self-esteem, mental health, & relationship issues. These experiences have shaped me into a therapist who is empathetic, practical, & down-to-earth. I know the path to self-improvement & rebuilding your relationships can be challenging. Let me help you understand yourself and/or your partner more by identifying your "WHY", meaning why you think, behave, and react the way you do based off of attachment, communication styles, past relationships, etc. Don't be afraid to take a chance on you and/or your partner. Let's create those meaningful changes and new memories together.

Going to college may feel like it is supposed to be one of the most exciting times in your life. Leaving home, starting an independent life and creating connections with people from all over the world sounds great, right? But, it is also one of the more challenging times in life from a developmental stance. Family relations feel different, making friends can be challenging in a larger setting, academics are rigorous and there is a struggle to know who you 'really are.' On top of that, differences between you and others on identity dimensions can have you re-examining where you fit into the larger world around you. I am here to help guide you through this time so that you can work through unpleasant feelings while simultaneously feeling more confident in the person you are becoming and wish to be.
