Therapists for college students near Rice University
Hello, my name is Abby, and I’m a licensed clinical social worker based in Texas. I bring experience from a variety of settings—including residential programs, community-based services, and school-based mental health care. I work with individuals navigating a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, life transitions, and the lasting impacts of trauma. My goal is to create a compassionate, supportive space where you feel heard, empowered, and equipped to move toward healing and growth. My approach to my work is simple: meet you where you are, as you are. I firmly believe in creating a safe and inclusive space where you feel heard, valued, and understood. I strive to help you navigate the things that are serving as barriers to you achieving your goals. No issue is too big or too small; if you are needing a place to process, I'm here! I bring warmth and curiosity to sessions, and when working with me, clients will be met with authenticity and honesty. You are the expert of your own experience, and will be treated as such as we collaborate towards helping you reach your goals. You've taken the first step in the healing process already: reach out to explore if I would be a good fit for you!
Please, allow me to navigate this life-changing journey with you. To be heard without being judged allows us to explore our current state of emotion without the fear of being ridiculed, without the stigma behind mental health, and without the fear of “what will they think of me?” The Goal: To reach a peaceful state of mind. You are not alone.
I am Alexandra Patricia (Tricia) Adams, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor – Associate (LPC-A), supervised by April West, LPC-S. I am located in Grand Prairie, Texas, between Dallas and Ft. Worth, and can work with clients throughout the entire state of Texas. I obtained my Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lamar University. I also hold a Master of Arts degree in English – Technical Writing. I have a Bachelor of Business Administration from Northwood University. I specialize in individual, couples, and group therapy, and practice within several treatment areas. I was born in Dallas and raised in Quitman, located in East Texas. I began my career as a medical assistant and have been an allied health professional for over forty-five years. I spent twenty years of my career as a medical assisting instructor, and another twenty years as the author of Kinn’s: The Administrative Medical Assistant and co-author of Kinn’s: The Medical Assistant. I have authored four editions of both textbooks. This project totaled sixteen texts, including student study workbooks, instructor resource books, test banks, lectures/presentations, and procedure guidelines. I believe that anyone can benefit from the counseling process. It is my hope that my clients will grow through this process and live happier lives. According to the American Psychological Association, mental health therapy can help a person going through a challenging life event or situation, treat mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder, and address symptoms like sadness, guilt, or anger. The process is also helpful when dealing with relationships with family, friends, and coworkers. I work with adults and adolescents, as well as couples and groups. I have found a niche working with first responders experiencing moral injury, generational trauma and estrangement, adoption, abortion, and miscarriage issues, chronic pain, DNA testing matters, grief, loss, and suicide prevention, intimacy issues, legal/offender issues, overcoming church hurt or past abuse, parental alienation, sexual assault/rape, and low self-esteem and self-confidence. I would be honored to work with you as you begin to live your best life. Counseling can help you as you confront long-standing life issues, or specific concerns that need to be addressed. The length of counseling can range from several weeks to several months, depending on the number of issues that will be discussed. Contact me for a complementary consultation and take the step forward to a richer, more rewarding future.
Starting therapy does not mean you are falling apart. Sometimes it just means you are ready to stop carrying everything alone. I work with college students and young adults who are trying to balance school, work, family, relationships, stress, anxiety, and everything else that comes with figuring life out. Some come to therapy feeling overwhelmed or burned out. Others are navigating trauma, self-doubt, relationship challenges, or patterns they are tired of repeating. I also enjoy working with BIPOC students, first-generation students, student veterans, service members, and military-connected students. Therapy with me is a space where you can be honest about what you are carrying, sort through what feels heavy, and feel like someone actually gets it. We can start wherever you are.

I am a life transition therapist. I help adults overcome anxiety and the unknown in order to step into new seasons of life with confidence and hope. Transitions can be exhausting. A breakup, leaving your country or the place you used to live or work, losing your health, starting college or grad school are moments when your inner coping resources could fail. Also, when you lose a loved one, you may feel estranged and angry for a long period, and traumatized too. Finding a safe space to heal and learn new coping strategies can make a difference. Working with me you will learn new tools to navigate into safe emotional shores. I have worked for 16 years treating anxious and depressed mood, trauma, the integration of contents of dreams and nightmares, somatic and relationship issues, themes of personal growth. My approach is psychodynamic and integrative, promoting a body-mind-spirit connection. I do trauma-informed, attachment, body focused, and cognitive behavioral interventions. It has been my privilege to hold the space for those who are in deep emotional pain, witness their wisdom as they make meaning of their suffering until they feel ready to move on. I will be a trustworthy and respectful listener during your healing journey, and we will work together in a cooperative manner. Soy una terapeuta de transiciones de vida. Hello there! I know that life can be challenging, and at times, it can feel overwhelming to navigate everything on your own. If you’re feeling stuck, anxious, or simply in need of a space where you can process your thoughts and emotions freely, I want you to know that you don’t have to go through it alone. Therapy isn’t about fixing what’s “wrong” with you—it’s about embracing your story, discovering your strengths, and finding new ways to care for yourself. I’m here to offer warmth, understanding, and compassionate support as we work together toward these things.
Mental health is defined as the ability to love, and the ability to work; to be able to have stable and emotionally fulfilling relationships with others, to take care of your daily needs, and to be able to enjoy using your time creatively and productively. As a counselor, I aim to join with my clients and help them identify their troubles, explore their origins, and create unique solutions to help them live the life they hope for. While my work is very relational and focuses more on meeting the unique needs of individuals, I use specific techniques drawn from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Skills, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I have seven years experience working with young adults, especially neurodivergent young adults on the autism spectrum or with ADHD or learning differences. I particularly enjoy vocational counseling and helping clients navigate life transitions. Many of my clients have complicated diagnositic histories and may have struggled to connect with other counselors in the past. I accept insurance through Headway and also accept private pay through card, cash, check, or Zelle. Please feel free to ask me about sliding scale.
I offer a warm, welcoming approach to therapy. Clients often feel better after the first session and grow on that progress with each subsequent session.... Learning how to thrive, not just survive. Specialties include: anxiety, bipolar, depression, and psychosis. I have experience with Veterans, after working eleven years at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, TX.
You’ve always been the one who holds it together. The friend everyone leans on, the one who keeps the peace, even when you're falling apart inside. You’re kind, thoughtful, and always thinking about how others feel—sometimes to the point of losing sight of what you need. Maybe you grew up in a home where speaking up was risky, or you were labeled as “too much.” Now, in college or early adulthood, you feel lost - constantly second-guessing yourself, unsure who you are outside of relationships or achievements. You want to feel more grounded, confident, and in control of your life—but you’re not sure where to start.
Hi there, I'm Gabriela! I would describe myself as a warm, supportive, and relational therapist, ensuring to build a strong connection with those I work with. I am dedicated to helping young adults find their footing in a world that often feels unstable. I have a passion for working with complex trauma, anxiety, depression, borderline personality disorder (BPD), self-esteem, and suicidal ideation. I offer a collaborative space where you don't have to face life's challenges alone.
Feeling overwhelmed and frustrated by the question 'so what's next after graduation?' Do you feel like you're still trying to figure out who you are, what you like, and just trying to navigate one day at a time? Then, you've come to the right place. I've been in your shoes and I know how hard it is dealing with the pressures from others, while you're just trying to get through your classes and enjoy time with friends. In sessions with me, I strive to offer you a safe space for you to share and process your thoughts, feelings, and current things going on in your life. The therapy space is a space for you, so we will work together to make sure you're getting all the help you need and meeting the goals important to you. And I won't lie sometimes it will be hard fucking work, but I believe you are capable of digging deep and doing that work and I will be there along the way to support, encourage, validate, and at times challenge you.

Howdy! My name is A.B. and I’m a queer, nonbinary therapist born and raised right here in Texas. Don’t let the folksy exterior fool you: growing up in a small town taught me to treat strangers like family, to uplift and respect the folks around me, and, as my granddad always said, “If you can help ’em, then help ’em.” I’ve brought those values into my therapy work and left the bigotry and systemic oppression behind like the hogwash it is. I practice from a place of cultural humility, guided by the stories, strengths, and values my clients bring to the table. You’re the expert on your life, I’m just here to walk alongside you, bringing the tools I’ve got in my toolbelt to help you navigate whatever’s weighing you down. There’s nothing too big we can’t face together, and I trust that with you in the lead, we can work toward the outcomes you’re hoping for in therapy. I specialize in supporting clients through trauma, grief, mood disorders, LGBTQ+ issues, neurodivergence, identity exploration, crisis recovery, and relationship challenges. I also love working with children and their families around emotional regulation, school and family stress, and communication. I’ve got a soft spot for neurodivergent kids (and adults!) and bring a lot of energy and creativity into that work. In session, I pull from a variety of therapeutic approaches, including CBT, DBT, ACT, solution-focused, narrative, and collaborative therapies, plus a lot more. So don’t be surprised if I throw in a little art-making, somatic work, or IFS (parts work) now and then. I’m committed to being a lifelong learner, and if something isn’t clicking, I’ll work with you to find what does. I earned my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Sam Houston State University in 2023, and before that, I got my B.A. in Theatre Education. So I’m definitely open to getting creative in sessions, though just plain talkin’ is great, too. Outside of therapy, I love baking, storytelling in all its forms (theatre, concerts, poetry slams, and tabletop RPGs), and learning about folks whose lives are different from mine. I also enjoy spending time with my partner and our beloved pets Pip, Charlie, and Winston. If you think I might be the right counselor for you, I’d be honored to meet you. Feel free to email me at ab@vadacounseling.com or schedule a free consultation online.
