Welcome to Gray Dove Therapy! I'm Shelby Jacobs. Life can often present us with challenges that leave us feeling not like ourselves. Many of us seek to deepen connections to feel a sense of peace, wellness, and fulfillment in our lives, but don't know where to begin. I offer a holistic approach to therapy using evidence based practices, somatic/body techniques, mindfulness/meditation, & family systems techniques within an attachment framework. If you are experiencing changes/transitions, have concerns about self-esteem and identity, or experience stress, anxiety, depression or trauma, let's work together to provide you a space to process your experiences and sense of relief. I offer telehealth, office, and nature based sessions. The outdoors can offer a place of healing and rejuvenation. My practice utilizes nature to enhance the healing impacts of traditional talk therapy. I offer a walk-and-talk model that combines the freeing element of being outdoors with psychotherapy. Movement in the outdoors gives us the ability to access our emotions and process our experiences while feeling grounded and attuned to the moment. This can be a new and inspiring experience for those who have tried traditional office-based therapy and felt they needed something different or more dynamic.

We are always changing, learning, and growing. Our bodies are wired with an innate capacity for and draw towards this growth. If you are feeling stuck, sad, anxious, angry, or lost you are in the right place. In therapy we will work together to create the conditions to allow that growth process to unfold. That may be learning skills, processing emotions or events, or practicing new ways of being. I believe deeply in the unique gifts of each of my clients and we’ll work by identifying places of stuckness and leveraging the strengths and resources that are already a part of who you are towards the growth you are longing for. Growth, like any other change, can be scary, exciting, messy, and sometimes confusing. Working with me you will have a safe place to explore the twists and turns of your journey, knowing you don't have to do this alone. I am a therapist with experience working with anxiety, depression, trauma, attachment wounding, and suicidality. I have worked in outdoor therapeutic settings and crisis response. I work with LGBTQ2IA+ and trans/non-binary folks in their journeys with sexuality and gender. And I operate with a lens of systemic oppression and community healing, using both cognitive and body-based frameworks. I work with adults, young adults, and teens.

If you’re feeling stuck, anxious or overwhelmed, find yourself repeating the same patterns, or are struggling to figure out your identity in a new role or stage of life, you’re not alone. So many of us try to push through without stopping to take care of ourselves. What you’re feeling is exhaustion that is masked as resilience. You deserve a life that feels calm, connected and meaningful. Selah Therapy Studio can help you find your way there. The word Selah means to pause and reflect. In our sessions, you’ll have the space to slow down, explore what’s beneath the surface and move toward balance, empowerment and healing. I work with adolescents, young adults and adults who are experiencing anxiety, past trauma, grief or major life changes. My approach is warm, collaborative and client-centered. Together, we’ll explore how your past experiences - including trauma, family dynamics, or difficult life events - shape the way you view yourself and the world. Your past may shape you, but it doesn’t have to define your future. Healing doesn’t mean erasing the past - it means learning to live fully with it. Together, we can make sense of what has happened in and around your life, so you can create space for change. I welcome you to reach out today for a free consultation to see if this feels like the right fit.

Sometimes, folx are concerned that their therapist is going to make them lie on a couch while they say nondescript and cryptic things like "hmmm" and "I see" and "how does that make you feel?" While I do ask the last question, I can promise that the therapy I provide is not that of the 1920s. I believe that you are the best expert on yourself and my role as your therapist is to help you uncover what you already know and put it into action. Reaching out to a therapist can be scary, but I hope you'll take that moment - perhaps after a few deep breaths - to give it a shot. You deserve the best care available to you from someone who gets it and truly enjoys the work that I do. I love my job and approach each session with an open mind and heart and a deep desire to walk alongside you as we meet your challenges together. I specialize in working with the LGBTQIA+ community (of which I am a part) as well as individuals and relationship partners who are navigating anxiety, sexuality, trauma, family conflict, and identity stress. After 10+ years of experience working in the field, I am uniquely qualified to understand many of the challenges and difficulties affiliated with finding balance and living authentically in this world.
