Therapists for college students near Boulder, CO
Hi there! We are an outpatient practice offering in-person and virtual appointments. We specialize in working with those navigating the tricky terrain of growing up—dealing with friendship shifts, school pressure, big emotions, and the journey of self-discovery. Many of the clients who find us describe themselves as high-performing yet often struggling with things such as: suspected or diagnosed ADHD, chronic anxiety, burnout, and who are seeking balance amidst life's demands. Their work often centers on identity exploration, navigating interpersonal relationships, building self-esteem, developing a more compassionate relationship with their bodies and food, and adapting to life transitions. Together, we explore how anxiety shows up, how boundaries can feel empowering, and what it looks like to build relationships (with yourself and others) that feel safe, reciprocal, and genuine. Wherever you are in your life journey, we are here to come along side you and support you in the next steps. We truly believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship. We encourage you to reach out for a consultation call to determine how we can best support you and answer any questions you might have about the therapy process.
Welcome! I am most passionate about supporting clients in the LGBTQ+ community, and those working through religious trauma, childhood trauma, and childhood emotional neglect. Together we work on challenges like low self-esteem/self-concept, grief, guilt and shame, trouble making decisions, perfectionism, and people pleasing tendencies. I also support clients working through general anxiety, depression, and life stressors. Clients who may be a good fit for me are motivated to get to know themselves better, process wounds from past experiences, and practice engaging with life in new ways - when they feel ready to do so. I incorporate education about the central nervous system and body based/ sensory grounding techniques into sessions. For in person sessions, I provide fidgets, coloring pages, and collage materials. I will almost always be fidgeting in session. Sometimes clients prefer to sit on the floor or take off their shoes - I welcome sensory adjustments like this! I recognize clients as the experts of their own lives, and see the therapeutic relationship as a type of dance between curious people. I believe therapy can be for anyone, and engage in my own personal therapy journey as well. I aim to create an equitable and judgement free zone in my space. If you'd like me to join you on your journey, reach out! For clients using insurance, I have partnered with Mindful Therapy Group for scheduling, billing, and a physical office space. I can also offer a sliding scale for clients without insurance, though these sessions can only be offered virtually at this time.
Reaching out for psychiatric care can be difficult. You may be concerned about being judged, unsure about medication, or discouraged by previous treatment experiences. As a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I believe care should be built on trust, honesty, respect, and collaboration. My role is to listen without judgment, explain your options clearly, and make sure you have a meaningful voice in treatment. I work with people of all backgrounds, including adolescents, adults, veterans, military-connected individuals, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. Many patients come to me because they want to better understand what they’re experiencing and find a treatment plan that feels manageable. These struggles may result in feeling constantly on guard, depressed, hopeless, unmotivated, or unable to concentrate – with symptoms that often affect sleep, relationships, school, work, and day-to-day functioning. Other psychiatric conditions include PTSD, mood disorders, and ADHD. No matter what you’re facing, my aim is to create a therapeutic relationship built on trust, honesty, respect, and collaboration to better help you improve sleep, focus, emotional stability, relationships, motivation, and overall quality of life. My work as a psychiatric clinician centers on evaluations, diagnoses, medication management, supportive therapy, treatment planning, and patient education, all guided by a collaborative, patient-centered approach built on shared decision-making. Rather than simply prescribing a path forward, I take time to listen and explain treatment options clearly, so you understand the potential benefits and risks of each one before deciding together what makes sense. From there, your treatment plan is built around your specific symptoms, goals, preferences, and past response to care. That same collaborative spirit shapes what it feels like to work with me day to day. My style is calm, conversational, and grounded in a supportive, respectful environment where you're never just receiving instructions. Through medication management, supportive therapy, motivational interviewing, and education, I help you better understand what you're experiencing and take an active role in your own treatment. As your goals and experiences evolve, so does your plan, since care here is never meant to be static. My approach to mental health care has been shaped by 25 years of experience as an Army combat medic, critical care nurse, and psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner. These roles gave me firsthand insight into trauma, crisis, resilience, and the effects of high-stress environments on individuals and families. I also hold a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, a Master of Business Administration, and the Healthcare Ethics Consultant-Certified credential. This combination of clinical, leadership, and healthcare ethics training strengthens my commitment to thoughtful, evidence-based treatments that respect each patient's values, autonomy, and individual circumstances. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and our four children. Our family is actively involved in Scouting America, which gives us opportunities to serve our community, spend time outdoors, and learn new skills together. I also enjoy fishing, camping, kayaking, gaming, reading, and woodworking.

I am a believer that we are all interconnected. Our relationships matter most to our wellbeing. And while we are living in a time where we are easily able to connect with one another, we have also never been so isolated and alone. The messages we receive from our greater systems often are at odds with what I know contribute to our wellbeing. Because of that we can often feel stuck, less than, or constantly hustling for “that thing.” We can end up chasing the wrong thing and find ourselves perpetually behind or inadequate. Our culture often places so much emphasis on outcomes, appearance, and external or material things. I sincerely believe that they are often at the root of our unhappiness. We often are doing the thing we think will help us but it ultimately harms us! We are doing it wrong. Together we will explore the often painful and uncomfortable spaces within and work from an Inside-Out approach. In doing so, we find that the storms tend to be more universal, we see our common humanity, we develop more self compassion and compassion and empathy for others. When we are our authentic selves, we become more free and our sessions will include plenty of laughing even as we dive into the parts that feel hard. We were never meant to do this life alone. And yet – so many of us are often sold on false narratives that “it’s just you” or have been invalidated, shamed, or traumatized by oppressive systems on the larger scale or within our own homes. My pride in the work is to help you become your best self, the one who is not merely living, but the one who is truly alive. Feeling it all, skin in the game, open to heartbreak, receptive to joy. Facing our pain is not easy (I know this well!). But I know deeply that when we do the right kind of hard, our efforts are fruitful beyond measure. Let’s face this together.

Meet the Bureau We specialize in the awkward art of being human, offering trauma-informed therapy in Denver for individuals and couples. Our therapists provide a wide range of therapies, including EMDR, DBT, and affirming care, with online sessions available across Colorado.
I work with college students and young adults who feel stuck in cycles of anxiety, overthinking, performance pressure, and emotional shutdown — even when they are capable and motivated. Many of the students I support struggle with test anxiety, presentations, interviews, perfectionism, panic symptoms, or the sense that their nervous system goes into “fight or flight” under pressure. Others experience anxiety and depression together, which can affect motivation, focus, and connection. My approach is neuroscience-informed and practical. I use evidence-based therapies including EMDR, ACT, CBT, Polyvagal-informed therapy, and mindfulness-based strategies to help clients regulate their nervous system, reduce reactivity, and build confidence in real-world situations. I provide a supportive, structured space where students can develop tools to manage stress, improve emotional regulation, and move forward with greater clarity and resilience
How are you doing right now? And what do you need? Maybe you know exactly; maybe you need some help to figure that out as you adjust to college life or deal with other stressors you might be experiencing right now. Either way, I really want to acknowledge your courage in seeking support. I offer a compassionate space to work through anxiety, depression, PTSD, stress, grief, trauma, and relationship issues, to transition through stages of life, or to make meaning out of tough things you have been through along the way. Services are available to anyone in Colorado. And, as a longtime climber and backcountry splitboarder, I also offer empathetic support for the unique needs of the mountain sports, outdoor recreation, and SAR communities. In our sessions, my role will be to help you identify and soothe underlying emotional wounding beneath problematic coping mechanisms that can form due to painful experiences, relationship difficulties, or other trauma. For relationships, I serve as a guide to help partners build trust and understanding by learning how to feel more secure with one another. Depending on your needs, we can use elements of traditional talk therapy, EMDR, mindfulness, nature-based methods, CBT, and more. I offer a balance of supportive listening, gentle challenging, and tools for managing difficult feelings. And, throughout our work together, I will always invite you to collaborate on goals, methods we use, and next steps. TO SCHEDULE A FREE INITIAL CONSULTATION... If it seems like I could be a fit for you, send me an email or leave me a voicemail with your name, number, a little bit about the support you might be seeking, and some times you might be available. I view therapy as sacred work in which the therapeutic relationship is one of mutual respect and collaboration. I hold a BA in Anthropology from the University of Washington (1997) and a Master’s degree (MA) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Argosy University (2010) and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Colorado. In 2014 I completed a three year advanced training in Somatic Experiencing (SE), a body-centered approach to treating trauma and other stress disorders. I am inspired by Western psychological models and Eastern contemplative techniques, and my practice is enhanced by many years of experience as a yoga and meditation teacher, and as a seeker of various healing modalities. A life-long path of self-exploration and global adventure has been my classroom and has led me to ashrams, Native American sweat lodges, monasteries, and innumerable seminars, workshops, and retreats. I believe in finding inner growth and meaning in all life experiences, especially adversity. My therapeutic style is integrative and holistic, creatively employing Somatic, Mindfulness, and Cognitive Behavioral techniques with the intention of restoring balance to body, mind and spirit and inner harmony with all of your Parts. We all face challenges, stressors, traumas, losses, and changes in life. Especially as women. Especially now. We are supposed to have it all, do it all, be it all. For everyone. All the time. Like yesterday. At Discover Peace Within, we recognize that as a human being, you have access to a reservoir of strength, resiliency, and peace within you. Yet, right now, you feel so far away from that sense of peace. Your childhood trauma keeps repeating itself in your relationships. Your low self-esteem makes you say “yes” when you mean “no.” You’re constantly worried if you belong. You lay awake at night wondering if you said the right thing? Did the right thing? You’re fearful of being “too much” while also feeling “not enough.” Life is happening so fast - you feel that you can’t keep up. You want to feel closer to yourself. Your true self. Not the self that you present to the world. Or to your boss and co-workers. Or even friends or family. You know what living in your true self feels like. You’ve had glimpses of it before. When your body-mind-spirit all clicked into place. You know she’s still there. She’s underneath all of the trauma from childhood. Or the messages from others about what you SHOULD be. What society makes you believe you HAVE to do. You’re blocked from making choices that YOU want to make. You’re held back from going for that job, putting yourself out there with friends, or resting when you need to. You struggle seeing the good in you. And yet, there is a voice within you, reminding you of your true self. Therapy can be a helpful place to get back to you. To get back to your true self. Working with a therapist at Discover Peace Within can offer you a sacred space - a time dedicated solely to you and your needs. A time for you to heal. Take a chance on you to discover peace within and book an appointment now.
