Therapists for college students near Boulder, CO
Hello! I am currently accepting new patients. All visits are through telemedicine, so I can see anyone in the state of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, or Colorado. My love for what I do in psychiatry, comes from the joy I get in helping others improve their lives. Most of my patients do not know which direction to go when then come to me, and that is ok. Some people come to me looking for second or third opinions about diagnosis or medications, some people are referred by a therapist to start medication. We can openly discuss decisions and options. This is a judgement free zone. There is no way you can TMI me! My primary role in our sessions is diagnosis, evaluation and medication management. The role I have in therapy is very small. Most clients are already in therapy or have been referred by therapists to me. All sessions are conducted by tele-medicine. **Offering flexible hours, evening appointments available, also some weekends. **
As a relationship, gender, and sexuality therapist, I'm here to help you to create more intimacy and connection in your relationships, explore your identities, and recalibrate toward a more authentic and compassionate life. I am particularly passionate about supporting LGBTQ+ folks in exploring and healing from internalized homophobia and transphobia as they often manifest in anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. Drawing primarily from Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), modern psychodynamic theory, and intersectional queer theory, I provide a validating and non-judgmental space for people to heal from past experiences and find deeper connection with themself and others. If you feel motivated to look at hard truths, ready to question what you’ve been taught you “should” be, and are even willing to sit in moments of discomfort and uncertainty along the way, we might be a great fit for working together. Regarding fees: I hold a limited number of reduced rate spots (starting at $100 per session) for folks who are unable to afford the full fee due to a range of factors such as low-paying employment and otherwise limited access to a financial safety net. Please reach out if you'd like to discuss more.

Do you struggle with excessive worrying? Do you find yourself avoiding certain situations out of fear or nervousness? Do certain situations trigger you emotionally? Are you always striving to be the very best academically while being hard on yourself if you don't measure up to your own expectations? If any of these scenarios sound familiar to you, I can help. I have over 12 years experience working with people who experience issues related to Anxiety and Trauma. I also specialize in helping people overcome Perfectionism and other issues related to Over-Achieving. I utilize cutting edge, evidence based therapies including EMDR, Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help people overcome their challenges. When I work with people I try to see the world through their eyes while also providing new perspectives. I help people understand the origins of their problems while helping them learn new skills to manage symptoms. I often utilize Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help people resolve trauma and anxiety. This cutting edge therapy can alleviate symptoms more quickly and thoroughly than talk therapy alone. I also love working with college students! I provide both in person and tele-therapy.
I enjoy learning about clients from a very dynamic perspective - where they came from, how they are now, and who they wish to become. I look forward to working with you and watching you grow into the person you have always wanted to be. I am trained in both short term (6-10 sessions) and long term therapy, and encourage clients to make their own decision regarding what they need from therapy. I also do stand-alone evaluations for emotional support animal letters.
College life and young adulthood is an exciting AND challenging stage of life! The thrill of independence is countered by the weight of adult responsibilities, the excitement of relationships also comes with challenges, and hopes for the future can be weighed down by current stressors and unresolved issues from the past. I love working with young adults as they navigate new challenges, heal from past wounds, and work towards a meaningful future. I work with clients using traditional talk therapy approaches and a modality called Brainspotting, which incorporates mindfulness, body awareness, and acceptance. Together, these interventions are helpful for a wide range of emotional issues.

Are you Autistic and/or ADHD and struggling in a world not designed for your neurotype? Or do you suspect that you may be Autistic and/or ADHD and want to work with a down-to-earth neurodivergent psychologist to find out? Are you looking for a therapist who gets the struggle? I offer collaborative and neurodiversity-affirming assessment and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) tailored to the needs of Autistic and ADHD clients. Assessment may help you better understand yourself or your child. I offer neurodiversity-affirming Autism and ADHD assessments for all ages, and have a special interest in clients whose autism and/or ADHD are masked by other factors such as high cognitive and/or verbal ability, gender, race, age, or other psychiatric diagnoses. DBT may help you understand and manage your thoughts, feelings, and behavior to align with your goals. I offer DBT (group-only or comprehensive DBT) tailored to the needs of Autistic clients, and am currently co-authoring a manual for Guilford Press on tailoring DBT for the needs of Autistic clients.
Hi there! I’m Alex Boyce, a Licensed Professional Counselor—and I’m a firm believer that therapy doesn’t have to feel intimidating or overly serious. I received my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from CU Denver in 2015, and I specialize in helping college students and young adults work through the challenges that come with this stage of life—things like anxiety (including that relentless “what if” spiral), stress, perfectionism, OCD, trauma, burnout, emotional ups and downs, and feeling lost or stuck. If your brain ever feels like it’s constantly running in the background or your emotions are all over the place, you’re not alone—and you’re in the right place. I’m trained in EMDR Therapy for trauma, as well as Exposure and Response Prevention and Inference-Based CBT for OCD and anxiety. Those terms might sound complicated, but I’ll break them down into real, understandable steps that actually help you make sense of what’s going on. My approach is collaborative, goal-oriented, and grounded in trust—with plenty of psychoeducation so you can understand why your mind reacts the way it does. Our first sessions are about connection and understanding what’s really going on beneath the surface. Together, we’ll make a plan that fits your goals—without judgment or pressure. What makes my practice a little different? I mix evidence-based therapy with genuine humor, empathy, and real talk. I’ve spent over a decade helping people move from survival mode to self-acceptance and confidence, and I’ll be there with you through it all—whether that means sitting in the hard stuff, celebrating wins, or laughing about the weird tricks anxiety plays on us. Outside of work, I recharge by doing yoga, hiking Colorado’s trails, paddleboarding, and catching live music when I can. If you’re ready to start feeling more like yourself—or figure out who that is—I’d be honored to walk alongside you.
You can do hard things, but you're tired, or wondering if things have to be this hard. You take care of yourself, but you still feel lonely or worried. People on the outside might say you're crushing it, but on the inside, sometimes you feel you're being crushed. You have big questions for which there may be no answers. I live in the same world you do, with its profound beauty and heartbreaking flaws. I strive to connect with my clients authentically, and sit with them as we contemplate difficult questions. If you are looking for a warm and collaborative space to process your emotions and maybe get some podcast recommendations along the way, we might be a good fit. Oh, and if the phrase “Highly Sensitive Person” means something to you (or feels like it should), I’ve got you. My clinical expertise is with the young adult population, having spent a decade working in institutions of higher education. My private practice clients are typically in the 18-40ish age range. At this time, my practice is fully online via HIPAA-compliant videoconferencing. Please note, this modality is not suitable for everyone.

Whether due to stormy family dynamics, unstable relationships, first-gen, LGBTQ, 'adulting', or having to navigate the never-ending COVID pandemic - life can become unmanageable! In the past five years with the University of Florida, I've had the tremendous joy of helping people (help themselves) through these storms - recent/old trauma, loving-and-conflictual relationships, coming to more peace and power with one's identity, more clarity and success at academics and career aspirations. You can count on me to be authentic and open, to come from a place of tenderness, warmth, and humor. Based in genuine, caring listening I try to offer everything possible to help you achieve lasting change. I'm a licensed psychologist (Hawaii - where I lived for years, Florida and Colorado), and am familiar with key areas of the scientific, empirical work and helps articulate trauma, anxiety and depression - and this points powerfully to what we can do to heal. My scholarly research and clinical experiences led to the completion of a book, “The Bruised Heart”. This book provides both in-depth information on the science of emotional healing and multiple clinical examples of real people (clients) whom I was so fortunate to know. I'm especially a good fit for anyone that may be (or called) “hypersensitive”, anyone who longs for authentic friendship, anyone who feels destabilized, perhaps following a break-up or stemming from chaotic family patterns. I love working with gifted and high IQ individuals, for example, with medical students, post docs, artists, and musicians who are highly intelligent but “underperforming” and simply suffering. And I have a passion for first-gen students, and has worked with many from, for example, Colombia, Brazil and Iran. Additionally, I think I am a strong fit for anyone who passionate about psychospiritual approaches to healing, growth and transformation. There are very realistic, nonabstract, doable ways to integrate forms of meditation into one’s busy life and this can be a gamechanger. Finally, I supervise third-year psychiatry residents and routinely assist clients in exploring medication options.
